Sexual Intelligence by Matty Klein book review

Sexual Intelligence: what we really want from sex and how to get it by Marty Klein – Book Review

“Sexual Intelligence is the set of internal resources that allows you to relax, be present, communicate, respond to stimulation, and create physical and emotional connection with a partner. When you can do that, you’ll have enjoyable sexual experiences, regardless of what your body does. Compared to that kind of emotional and physical nourishment, the biggest, hardest erection or the wettest, tightest vagina are trivial.”

If this makes sense to you, you will surely love reading this book, Sexual Intelligence, by Marty Klein, a popular sex therapist. The book, published in 2012, theorises sex, sexual intelligence, sexual emotions and everything about it rather than focusing more on action – thing that many people want to witness in books like these. However, as the subtitle says it clearly – what we really want from sex and how to get it, the book by Marty Klein will prove to be an eye-opener rather than an erection-support.

Books about sex, for most people, should be full of pictures, positions, ways to have interesting sex and so on… However, there are readers who want to understand the abstract enigma that sex is. For the latter, this book by a sex therapist will do the job. The author makes you understand what is ‘normal’ about sex and why one should not ‘measure’ sex against some assumed standards. The author writes:

“In this erotic world, there’s no cultural hierarchy stating that certain kinds of sex are better than others; thus, whatever (consensual) activities people do are fine. ”

And he furthers the argument wonderfully with these valuable lines:

“Those old hierarchies (intercourse is better than oral sex, oral sex is better than a hand job, toes are inherently not sexy, and so on) are for accountants, not lovers.”

The book is divided into three parts and there are 10 chapters in the book. The first part is about sex. The author has named it ‘Telling the Truth About Sex’. The second part is named Components of Sexual Intelligence. And the third, and final, part is named ‘Implications and Applications’. So, as any reader can easily fathom, the book progresses logically and a reader will understand things in consecutive order. Understanding what sex is and what it’s not will lead one to understand what is sexual intelligence and then, eventually, a person can understand what are the applications of sexual intelligence and how it can help someone in achieving what one wants from sexual indulgence.

What I like about the book are the anecdotes that you can extract perhaps from every chapter. Though you can and you should read the chapters as you read usually in other books, you can also read the book randomly. On every random page, you can find something that will be useful for you. For example, people often want to calculate the time they indulge in sex. For some, the actual intercourse’s time matters the most and for some, everything that leads to intercourse including the intercourse matters equally. However, the author tells his readers that you don’t need to rush. Give it time. Let yourself feel you are doing things as you like and not as you think to be right. And then, this is for those who are in a hurry because of many reasons:

“If you want sex but you don’t have the time, enjoy a minute of kissing or fondling. Have sex later, tomorrow, or who knows when.”

The book is full of knowledge and practical information and suggestions about sex. It can be read by couples, singles or anyone who wants to understand sex. You can get a copy from Amazon India by following the link below – Sexual Intelligence by Matty Klein:
